KERRI (6:23) CHANDLAR
NewJersey
USA

It seems that if you're from NEW JERSEY, USA at the moment, then the skies are the limit at the moment, especially when its concerned with GARAGE/HOUSE.Artists such as BLAZE, SMACK, ARNOLD JARVIS,TONY HUMPHERIES, MONE and MICHAEL WATFORD. Who are a few that coming to mind regesting from this musical outpost.

But at 25, Kerri Chandlar, is still considered the "baby ", within  the DJ/PRODUCER CIRCLES from that region. However, Kerri is still highly regarded, and is now on a crest of a wave with recent projects such as the single "INSPIRATION" with ARNOLD JARVIS has proved.

His nickname "6:23" has intrigued everybody. I thought I'd guessed the plot, and assumed that this was his date of birth; WRONG. According  to  Kerri, the date of 23rd of JUNE was a very  bad period within his life; and he keeps the tag to remind him of time, thus keep him in check ; NO BIG HEADS WANTED HERE.

He quotes that a major influence into his work was from the days of watching his father Djing at local clubs within theNew Jersey area, who shaped and honed his musical ideas by playing DISCO/JAZZ records of the early to late 1970's.

Eventually after acquiring his own decks and other influential musical influences in the process, Kerri was led into the dizzy  world of DJING.

His first djing duties came in the shape as a mobile jock at the many HOUSE parties at the time in New Jersey. He got his first shot at becoming a resident DJ at a club called AMERICAS, in NEW JERSEY, USA; which for a while, gave him the experience and exposure of what life is really like as JOCK. After a while he decided that he would have go at owning his own label. This eventually came to fruition with him calling it EXPRESS records, thus allowing him also to make and produce records of his own style.

Since that day, the ball hasn't stop rolling for the BABY OF THE FAMILY concerning the New Jersey Garage/House scene. He is now responsible for a number of remixes for numerous artists. However, his earlier work with CHAMPION RECORDS, UK; saw him complie the classic compilation album called" A BASEMENT, A RED  LIGHT AND A FEELING which has placed him into the GARAGE/HOUSE HALL OF FAME over here in England.

The  question being asked at present though is, having completed so much work  for so many artists, will KERRI CHANDLAR return to work with the MAJOR RECORD COMPANIES again?

The question it seems is left in the open, whereas Kerri Chandlar is concerned. But with recent releases from Kerri it does appear that he prefers to work with Independent labels that do not pressure you for instant chart success.

His sound when trying to analyse it seems is a mixture of JAZZ, SOUL and a DARK STREET INFLUENCE which scares most majors in taking a risk with him.

Kerri believes that by staying in touch with the Independents he can be involved with the continual attitudes and influences of this style of music. It these ingredients that has allowed at for the music  to stay fresh or exciting to the listener. And in our case the HOUSE AND GARAGE FAN.

But after some investigation we find that find Kerriwas foundto be going back on himself some what with his proclaimed love of the UNDERGROUND. It appears that he has signed for an undisclosed sum to WARNER BROTHERS, USA; and has been secretly working on a project called OUT OF ORIGIN, which is set to be a stomper of a set, to be released later this year.

Also, Kerri has come clean and promised us that during 1996, he will be sending us out more EP'S.

During 1995, he did just that by first giving us the startling EP called IONOSPHERE. Then to follow were-  ATMOSPHERE, STRATOSPHERE,HEMISPHERE and TRIANSPHERE to be precise. In 1996, we are promised another rendition of BASEMENT, A RED LIGHT AND A FEELING album. Happy Days are here again or what?

My introduction with the man came with his inspirational BASEMENT  EP, and probably his best single to date(I THINK SO, ANYWAY)which was called "STOMPING GROUNDS" on STRICTLY RHYTHM, USA. A great mixture of JAZZ, SOUL CHORDS, A SKIPPY DRUM PATTERN AND WICKED VOCALS made this a classic.

Lately with have seen him team up with

The frightening thing about all this is.
He is still a BABY, you know what I mean ?
